Incorporated in Portugal on October 11, 1969, Cordex roots and origin can be traced as far back as the beginning of the 1960s.

The story begins with Manuel Armando Pereira, President of the Board of Directors at Cordex, and a small company named SOFIOS, a producer of cotton packing twines and other fibres in the early 1960s.

As business started to grow, SOFIOS began to produce sisal ropes and twines. To compete against some of the larger manufacturers, Manuel Armando knew he had to make some strategic partnerships and merged with another local company. Thus begins the history of the establishment of Cordex Companhia Industrial Textil S.A.

Cordex main focus was the production of agricultural sisal twine which is still produced to this day, though it was the implementation of synthetic ropes in the1970s that allowed Cordex to overcome the adversity other producers experienced during these troubled and turbulent times.

During the 1980s Cordex began a total overhaul in the modernization of the factory. Changes were made to the entire infrastructure and organization of the company and the production of synthetic baler twine for agricultural use began in earnest. With a focus on reinvestment and continual modernization the production of flexible foam began as well.

With solid groundwork in place, the 90's began with strong continual growth. Cordex continued to expand its product line on industrial rope applications and started producing multi-filaments using two state of the art advanced lines. High tenacity Poly-Steel was now being produced which led to the production of high tech yarns used in the telecommunications industry, a significant aspect of Cordex with the internet fast becoming such an important tool.

In 1997, Cordex received ISO 9002 certification verifying its commitment to quality products and service and organization. That same year CORDEX SGPS (Cordex Group) was established and investments and strategies in other industries began to take shape.

In February of 2000, the plan to produce sisal twine in Brazil became a realization. Two years later CORDEBRAS began production in Salvador Bahia, Brazil. It put Cordex much closer to the raw material source and allowed for a much more competitive edge in the market.

Just two years later CORDENET was established. Top of the line knitting looms were purchased from Germany and the manufacturing of net wrap was in full swing. This expansion allowed Cordex to offer a complete line of crop packaging products to a broader target audience. Now Cordex produces sisal & synthetic twines along with bale netting, one of the first companies in the world to accomplish this feat.

In October of 2006, Cordex North America was established with offices stationed in the United States and Canada to solidify its goal on building long terms relationships with our friends in North America. Today, sales offices are now fully staffed in 6 countries across the globe including the UK.

In these past 40 years Cordex has become a small but versatile global company with over 600 employees and product sales in 55 countries worldwide. As we look forward to a future of new and exciting possibilities, we will continue to develop innovative value-added products and invest in information technologies that will provide a core value to our dedicated customers.
